It appears that Juan Mata has finally earned Chelsea coach Jose Mourinho’s faith. The club's two-time Player of the Season put in another confident, string-pulling display in Chelsea’s 4-0 hammering of Steaua Bucharest in UEFA Champions League Group E action in Romania on Tuesday night.
"He played No. 10. He played No. 7. He played very well with the ball, as he always does. But he also played very well without the ball, which he never did. Yes, he's coming closer to me. Very much closer," Mourinho said of Mata’s performance. Regarding the win, he added: "If we hadn't won, we would've been in trouble. Now I just want to think about qualifying, not being first."
Chelsea’s next two games are against Group E leader Schalke, which has 6 points from two games after beating FC Basel 1-0 in Switzerland on Tuesday.
