Orozco replaces Gonzalez at training camp

[USA MEN] Puebla defender Michael Orozco was named as the replacement for LA Galaxy defender Omar Gonzalez on the U.S. national team preparing for Friday's World Cup 2014 qualifier against Jamaica in Kansas City, Kan. Gonzalez left Sunday's Galaxy game against Chivas USA at halftime with what was diagnosed as a left hip strain.

Orozco's only appearance in the Hexagonal came Sept. 6 when he started at right back in the 3-1 loss to Costa Rica. His other four appearances in 2013 were at center back during the Gold Cup.

Orozco, who has 10 caps, had not been called into any qualifiers in 2013 until the Costa Rica game, but he impressed Klinsmann with his play during the Gold Cup and on the right side of Puebla's three-man backline this season in Mexico's Liga MX.

The other center back option -- Clarence Goodson -- suffered an ankle injury that kept him out of the San Jose Earthquakes' last MLS game but he should play in their key match Wednesday night against Colorado. The Quakes are off this weekend so he could every well be called in for the Panama game on Tuesday. John Brooks, who made his debut against Bosnia-Herzegovina, is sidelined with a dislocated elbow.

The likely central defense starters on Friday are Geoff Cameron and Matt Besler.

Hexagonal center back pairings:
Honduras-USA: Gonzalez-Cameron
USA-Costa Rica: Gonzalez-Goodson
Mexico-USA: Gonzalez-Besler
Jamaica-USA: Gonzalez-Besler
USA-Panama: Gonzalez-Besler
USA-Honduras: Gonzalez-Besler
Costa Rica-USA: Gonzalez-Besler
USA-Mexico: Gonzalez-Goodson

This is unfortunate, as I was hoping to see Besler and Gonzo paired again, both knowing that Goodson is giving them a serious run for starting spots next summer. Geoff is solid and I hope he works well with Orozco. I loved Goodson and Gonzo together in Columbus! Dos a cero, dos a cero.......
