[STANFORD-USC: Women] No. 4 Stanford lost to USC, 1-0, in front of a sellout crowd of 2,150 at Laird Q. Cagan Stadium for its third consecutive loss -- something that hasn’t happened since a streak that bridged the 2005 and 2006 seasons.

Moreover, the Cardinal has not lost three consecutive matches at home since a four-match streak that bridged the 1986 and 1987 seasons and it has never lost three consecutive conference matches at home.

USC  scored the game's lone goal on a far-post header by Alex Quincey off a corner kick from Kayla Mills in the 59th minute. Goalkeeper Caroline Stanley made eight saves, including two outstanding ones, to stop the Cardinal.

“This team’s lacking a little bit of confidence," said Stanford coach Paul Ratcliffe, who hadn’t endured three losses in a season since 2007. "If we get a goal, I think you’d see a different team, because, obviously, I think they’ve proven they’re pretty good in how well they did in getting to this point. They have the potential. But you have to have the confidence, you have to have the self-belief and you have to have the internal leadership and the desire.”
