[WASHINGTON-OREGON STATE: Men]No. 3 Washington remained unbeaten with a 1-0 win over Oregon State in Pac-12 action on Monday night in Seattle.
“It was a strange game because we were always comfortable, yet they could have equalized in the final minute,” said Huskies coach Jamie Clark. “We had most of the ball, but we just couldn’t put them away.”
Cristian Roldan scored the game's only goal on a header off a patented throw-in from Michael Harris in the 32nd minute.
It was the second goal of the season for Roldan, the freshman who last year was the Gatorade National High School Player of the Year. Harris added his fifth assist, once again coming with his hands instead of his feet.
Oregon State's best chance came late in the first half when Borce Atanasov fired a shot from 12 yards out that was tipped by UW keeper Ryan Hermanoff the crossbar and out of play.
“I’m absolutely gutted for our guys,” said Beavers coach Steve Simmons. “I thought that we were the better team on the night. You’re talking about going into a difficult environment, in a Pac-12 game, against a highly ranked team, and our guys were tremendous. We deserved no less than a tie tonight, if not a win.”
