[NORTH CAROLINA-UNCW] Sophomore Jordan Cordero’s first career goal lifted UNCW past No. 16 North Carolina, 1-0, on the road for the Seahawks' first win in the series since 1978.

“This is a big win for us now and for our alumni, many of who came to support us tonight,” said UNCW coach Aidan Heaney. “We have some guys banged up and had to go to our bench quite a bit and each player answered the call. UNC Chapel Hill is a strong team and put us under pressure all game. Our guys competed every minute and earned tonight’s win.”

Cordero had just stepped onto the field as a sub before finishing off a play that began with a deflected free kick for the game's only goal in the 36th minute.

Freshman goalkeeper Sean Melvin, making his first start since Sept. 21, finished with four saves and earned his second shutout. The Tar Heels held a 16-4 advantage in shots, but managed to get just four on frame.
