Phoenix FC's owners get the boot

[USL PRO] USL PRO has terminated the franchise rights of the owners of Phoenix FC, BDR Sports, after just one season. In a statement issued Saturday, USL PRO said Phoenix FC will continue to participate in the league in 2014 under new ownership and the ownership group will be unveiled later in November. For USL PRO president Tim Holt's letter to BDR Sports, detailing the franchise agreement violations that led to BDR Sports' termination.

Holt's letter released by Indy Week outlined four violations:

-- BDR Sports' failure to maintain a full performance security and replenish its balance within 30 days of being drawn upon;
-- BDR Sports' submission of misleading and inaccurate financial statements distorting the ownership group’s financial worth prior to the acquisition of the franchise;
-- BDR Sports' failure to carry worker’s compensation insurance for a period of time during the 2013 season;
-- BDR Sports' commission of three or more minimum standards defaults under the franchise agreement in during the season. (Most of the 17 violations related to failure to timely report game information.)

Phoenix began the 2013 season playing at Arizona State University's Sun Devil Stadium, the women's soccer stadium, in Tempe, but it moved for its final games to Reach 11, a youth sports complex, where attendance, already on the decline from the 4,198 fans for its opener, plummeted.
