Seattle Sounders forward Clint Dempsey, who on Wednesday was forced out of the USA squad to face Scotland due to injury, is likely set for a two-month return to the Premier League in January, as his MLS contract allows him to go on loan during the offseason. According to the Daily Mirror, his former club Tottenham has the right of first refusal on the USA captain, while Fulham, Aston Villa and Everton have all expressed interest.

Earlier this week, Seattle general manager Adrian Hanauer confirmed the reports, which surfaced last month. "Clint's contract allows him to go on loan for the offseason,” he said. "All parties are working on a deal and we won't be surprised if it happens."

MLS players have a history of going on loan to English Premier League clubs. LA Galaxy forward Landon Donovan completed loan spells at Everton in 2010 and 2012, while Thierry Henry went on loan to Arsenal from the New York Red Bulls in 2012, and Galaxy striker Robbie Keane went on loan to Aston Villa in 2012.
