[AMERICANS ABROAD] Megan Rapinoe's Lyon, winner of the 2011 and 2012 UEFA Women's Champions League and runner-up in 2013, didn't even survive the fall campaign of the 2013-14 edition. It lost at home to German club FFC Turbine Potsdam, 2-1, blowing a two-goal aggregate lead and going out on away goals before a crowd of almost 10,000.

Rapinoe played the first half before being taken out of the game. Maren Mjelde's penalty kick in the 73rd minute decided the series after Stefanie Draws' goal in the 33rd minute canceled out Camille Abily's goal.

Alex Singer, Potsdam's lone American, did not play.

Five Americans -- Ashlyn Harris, Whitney Engen, Ali Krieger, Christen Press and Meghan Klingenberg -- started for Tyreso in its 4-0 win over Fortuna Hjorring that moved the Swedish runner-ups into the final eight with a 6-1 aggregate win.

Engen had the first Tyreso goal. Press finished the year with 37 goals in 37 games.

Arianna Criscione was the backup to Swiss keeper Gaelle Thalmann in Italian club Torres' 2-0 win over Russia's FC Rossiyanka that moved it into the quarterfinals with a 2-1 aggregate win.

Austria's SV Neulengbach completed the final eight that also includes defending champion Wolfsburg, English clubs Arsenal Ladies and Birmingham City Ladies and Barcelona.
