[CONCACAF AWARDS] The Ballon d'Or, first awarded in 1956, was originally restricted to European players playing in Europe. El Rey de América is given to the best player playing in South America. CAF (Africa) and the AFC (Asia) have awards. Now, finally, Concacaf has its own awards.

Fifteen Americans plus U.S. national team coach Jurgen Klinsmann are among the nominees in six award categories. The awards will be handed out following balloting by national team coaches and captains, media and fans.

Concacaf Awards: Balloting

Americans Jozy Altidore, Michael Bradley, Clint Dempsey and Landon Donovan are among the nominees for the Men's Player of the Year, while six Americans -- Morgan Brian, Sydney Leroux, Alex Morgan, Hope Solo, Christie Rampone, Abby Wambach -- are on the shortlist for Women's Player of the Year.

Tim Howard is up for Goalkeeper of the Year, LA Galaxy's Bruce Arena and Klinsmann are nominees for Coach of the Year, while Mark Geiger and Jair Marrufo are nominees of Referee of the Year.

Goals by Altidore and Brek Shea are among those in the running for Goal of the Year.

Final votes in each of the six categories will be tallied by mid-December, with three finalists elected in each category. Winners will be announced by the end of the year.
