[NWSL] The National Women's Soccer League will have its first expansion team -- and second team operated by an MLS club -- as the Houston Dynamo will announce Thursday that it will proceed with the launch of a NWSL team in 2014.

Dynamo president Chris Canetti had tweeted on Saturday that the club would go ahead with plans for the women's pro team. Houston is one of the best-drawing MLS clubs. The Dynamo conducted a drive for fans interested in purchasing season tickets to the women's team.

The Portland Thorns -- operated by the MLS Timbers -- drew more than double any other NWSL team and won the league's inaugural title.

Houston will give the NWSL nine teams, which will require one team to sit out each week or play two games in a week. The league's other teams are grouped geographically -- four in the East, two in the Midwest and two in the Pacific Northwest.
