West Bromwich Albion on Friday finally appointed Pepe Mel as the successor to Steve Clarke after a search that lasted 26 days. Mel led Real Betis to seventh-placein Spain’s La Liga last season, before being fired in December. He has signed an 18-month contract at the Hawthorns and will take charge of his first game at home to Everton on Monday.
