Barcelona on Sunday labored to a 4-1 win against lowly Almeria. Goals from Alexis Sanchez and Lionel Messi gave the host a 2-0 lead midway through the first half, but Almeria quickly pulled one back through Angel Trujillo. The defending La Liga champion then struggled in the second half before late goals from Carles Puyol and Xavi Hernandez added gloss to the win.

After the game, Francisco, the Almeria coach, noted that the scoreline looked much more commanding than Barca’s display actually was. He said that his team was pushing on for another goal, which led to Barca’s opportunities to grab a third and fourth goal. “It’s too heavy a defeat and it’s a harsh outcome because we wanted to go for the draw,” Francisco said. “I am proud of my players despite the final result, which looks like an easy win for Barca.”
