[MLS: Week 1] Seattle's three second-half subs combined for a 94th-minute winner as the Sounders opened the 2014 MLS season with a 1-0 win over defending champion Sporting Kansas City. The goal was the sixth for Seattle against Sporting KC in the 90th minute or later in their last seven meetings.

The match looked to be headed toward a scoreless draw when Homegrown signing Sean Okoli played a cross into the area that Sporting KC goalie Eric Kronberg could not handle. Clint Dempsey's first shot hit the crossbar, but the ball came back to him and he pushed it forward for Chad Barrett, one of six players who made their Seattle debuts, to stab home.
