Messi: 'We were never in danger of an upset'
[UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE: Wednesday] Barcelona joined La Liga rival Atletico Madrid, defending champion Bayern Munich and French giant Paris St. Germain in the final
eight of the UEFA Champions League with a 2-1 win over Manchester City.
The 4-1 aggregate win moves Barca into the quarterfinals for the seventh year in a row. City has its chances to get
back in the game, but David Silva, Samir Nasri and Pablo Zabaleta couldn't convert. Inevitably, Lionel Messi
put Barca ahead in the second half with the outside of his left foot from close range. Vincent Kompany and Daniel Alves exchanged goals at the end of the
game to give Barca a 2-1 home win.
The victory came after Barca had lost two of its last three games, setting off a crisis of confidence in Catalonia.
''We had some pretty big
setbacks, especially in the way we were playing," admitted Messi, "but today we got back to playing the way we know, the Barca people love. Even though the goal came in the second half, I don't think
we were ever in danger of an upset.''
Goals from Marquinhos and Ezequiel Lavezzi gave PSG a 2-1 win over Bayer Leverkusen at the Parc des Princes to clinch a 6-1 aggregate
