Mediator: 'Cooperation and progress' in ref talks
[MLS SPOTLIGHT] Scot L. Beckenbaugh, the acting director of the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service, issued a
statement, commending representatives of the Professional Referee Organization (PRO) and Professional Soccer Referees Association (PSRA) "for their cooperation and progress" in collective bargaining
negotiations being conducted under FMCS auspices.
According to the statement, Beckenbaugh and Jack Sweeney, FMCS Director of Mediation Services for the
Northeast Sub-Region, conducted several lengthy PRO-PRSA mediation sessions. While differences remain, additional mediation sessions have been scheduled. The dates, times, and location of the
negotiations will remain confidential, according to Beckenbaugh.
For the second weekend in a row, MLS has used replacement referees.
