[MLS: Week 5] Unlike their foreign-based counterparts four weeks earlier against Ukraine, the MLS players weren't no-shows at the last-chance saloon on Wednesday.

None of the MLS players on the bubble earned a ticket to the World Cup, but they will likely all receive invites to the pre-party, the World Cup training camp scheduled to kick off May 14, a day after Jurgen Klinsmann must submit his 30-player short list to FIFA.

Klinsmann has said he won't base his selections on how a player does in one game but on the totality of his work. A total of 20 MLS players -- the 19 players in Glendale plus the injured Brad Evans -- are under serious consideration for the 30-player short list, and we'll be following them over the next six weekends before Klinsmann will likely make his first cuts on the weekend of May 10-11, which also happens to be the final weekend for his players based in the English and German top-level leagues.

The USA 20:
SATURDAY:
M Kyle Beckerman (Real Salt Lake at Sporting KC)
D Matt Besler (Sporting KC vs. Real Salt Lake)
D Tony Beltran (Real Salt Lake at Sporting KC)
M Michael Bradley (Toronto FC at Columbus)

F Clint Dempsey (Seattle at Portland)
M Maurice Edu (Philadelphia at Chicago)
D Brad Evans (Seattle at Portland-injured)
M Luis Gil
(Real Salt Lake at Sporting KC)
GK Bill Hamid (D.C. United vs. Chicago)
F Eddie Johnson
(D.C. United vs. New England)
GK Sean Johnson (Chicago vs. Philadelphia)
D Michael Parkhurst (Columbus vs. Toronto FC)
GK Nick Rimando (Real Salt Lake  at Sporting KC)
D DeAndre Yedlin (Seattle  at Portland)
M Graham Zusi (Sporting KC vs. Real Salt Lake)
SUNDAY:
M Landon Donovan (LA Galaxy at Chivas USA)
D Omar Gonzalez
(LA Galaxy at Chivas USA)
IDLE:
D Clarence Goodson (San Jose)
F Chris Wondolowski (San Jose)

Many of the MLS 19 -- Evans' situation isn't looking good -- will be involved in some very high-profile games this weekend ...

PORTLAND-SEATTLE. The Cascadia Cup should be a barn-burner and a big test for the Sounders' two Yank hopefuls: DeAndre Yedlin and Clint Dempsey. No one's questioning Yedlin's burners, but this game will be a big test of his tactical acumen in face of the onslaught that will surely come from the Timbers, desperate for their first win. Dempsey looked like a completely different player Wednesday night than he was a month earlier against Ukraine. Can be put his stamp on the biggest of the weekend's rivalry games? (The word out of Seattle is the Sounders have "slowed things down" with Evans.)

SPORTING KC-REAL SALT LAKE. Five U.S. starters from Wednesday will be involved in this rematch of MLS Cup 2013: Kyle Beckerman, Tony Beltran and Nick Rimando for the visitors and Matt Besler and Graham Zusi for the home team. The player to watch: Besler. He didn't have a bad game against Mexico, unlike the guy playing next to him, but Sporting KC has not displayed the rock-solid defense it exhibited in 2013, giving up nine goals in six games (MLS and CCL) so far this season. How Besler does against MLS's most consistently dangerous attack will be very interesting to see.

CHIVAS USA-LA GALAXY. Pre-Glendale, most betting folks would have put money on Landon Donovan and Omar Gonzalez starting at the World Cup. Now, you couldn't say that about either player. Sunday's Super Clasico, in Klinsmann's backyard, will be a big test for both players. The Galaxy has yet to win in MLS -- albeit in two matches against RSL -- and Chivas USA isn't the joke team it was last season. Mauro Rosales and Erick Torres are just the kind of players to test Gonzalez's command of the area. More generally, the game will give further indication of just what's the story with Donovan's knee.

Both Portland defender Michael Harrington and FC Dallas midfielder Je-Vaughn Watson will be available this weekend as an independent MLS review panel rescinded the fine and one-game suspension for the red cards issued for violent conduct in the 40th minute of the March 29 game. The clubs jointly submitted an appeal for review of the play an it was unanimously upheld.
