[USL PRO: Week 3] The Charlotte Eagles, the 2013 USL PRO runners-up, open their 2014 season Friday night as they host the Dayton Dutch Lions at Queens Sports Complex. They lost several key players but have brought in four players with almost 250 MLS games between them, one of them a Fulbright scholar.

2014 Charlotte Eagles:
Jorge Herrera, who had 10 goals and four assists in 2013, returns for his eighth season in Charlotte. Also back are the likes of Brock Duckworth, Matt Gold, Ben Newnam, Drew Yates and Juan Guzman, who had an extended look in preseason with MLS's Colorado Rapids. They lost a pair of defenders: Shaun Francis, who has been starting for the San Jose Earthquakes, and Fejiro Okiomah, who was signed, then quickly waived by Chivas USA. New faces with MLS experience include Wells Thompson (158 games), Jonathan Leathers (56), Fulbright scholar Zak Boggs (29) and Bilal Duckett (5). Doug Herrick, a former MLS pool keeper, will look to win the job in goal after Eric Reed took a coaching job with Bowling Green.

COACH:
Mark Steffens. STADIUM: Queens Sports Complex (capacity: 5,000).
MLS PARTNER: none.

-- Houston Dynamo loaned midfielder Brian Ownby and goalkeeper Michael Lisch to its USL PRO affiliate, Pittsburgh Riverhounds, bringing to five the number of Dynamo players in Pittsburgh.
