[NWSL DISCIPLINE] The NWSL Disciplinary Committee has suspended U.S. national team star Carli Lloyd two games for use of excessive force in an incident the Western New York Flash midfielder was involved in with Chicago Red Stars rookie midfielder Vanessa DiBernardo in Saturday's game at Toyota Park.

The incident took place late in the first half when Lloyd pulled down DiBernardo from behind by her jersey and swung around and struck DiBernardo in the face as the daughter of former U.S. international Angelo DiBernardo was falling to the ground.

Lloyd later apologized to DiBernardo, saying the the play was "inexcusable."
