Portland's Fernandez scores amazing flick & volley goal

[VIDEO PICK: MLS Goals of the Week] Gaston Fernandez scored one the greatest goals of the season so far in one of MLS's most exciting games: Portland’s 3-2 win over D.C. United. The 30-year-old Argentine, 34 seconds after kickoff, flicks the ball over sliding United goalkeeper Bill Hamid and volleys home.

The goal helped the Timbers to their first win of the year, thanks to a goal, four minutes into second-half stoppage time by another Argentine, Maximiliano Urruti.

Fernandez’s strike is a candidate for Week 9 AT&T MLS Goal of the Week, along with rookie Patrick Mullins' first MLS goal; an exquisite curling chip by Colorado’s Vicente Sanchez, and blasts by Hosuton’s Giles Barnes and Vancouver’s Pedro Morales.
