What They're Saying: Clarence Goodson

"When Jurgen needed a result, he called on me. You look at the games that were played last year. Gold Cup final, snow game, 2-0 against Mexico. Were there any games bigger than that? I played in all three of those. So it’s certainly surprising and something I think Jurgen got wrong."

-- San Jose Earthquakes defender Clarence Goodson on being left off the USA's World Cup roster by Coach Jurgen Klinsmann. (MLSSoccer.com)

I think he is right. Goodson should have made the final 23.

Regardless of whether one thinks Goodson deserved to make the team (and I am a Quakes fan so I would not have complained), this outpouring of complaints from those who were cut is not helpful to the team. The fact is, JK said that who makes the 23 now is not based on past performance, so Clarence's use of past performance as his argument is not a valid reason to complain now.
