[WORLD CUP 2014 FRIENDLIES] France gave a thoroughly impressive performance in its first World Cup warm-up match, thrashing Norway, 4-0, at the Stade de France. Olivier Giroud scored two goals, and wingers Antoine Griezmann and Mathieu Valbuena, who had three assists, had excellent games for the Bleus in the absence of stars Franck Ribery and Karin Benzema.

Juventus star Paul Pogba and sub Loic Remy also scored for France, which plays Paraguay in Nice and Jamaica in Lille before heading to Brazil for the World Cup.

"We haven't won the World Cup," said Pogba. Other players also tried to downplay the importance of the win. "It was only a friendly," said Griezmann. "We can't rest here."

JAPAN-CYPRUS. Schalke defender Atsuto Uchida scored the lone goal as Japan began its World Cup preparations with a 1-0 win over Cyprus at the Saitama Stadium.
