Minnesota United has chance to clinch

[NASL: Week 8] Minnesota United FC has a chance to clinch the NASL spring championship Saturday but it will have to do it on the road. It will win the title with a game to spare if it beats the 2013 spring champion Atlanta Silverbacks and New York and San Antonio both tie or lose. It can also clinch with a tie if New York and San Antonio both lose.

The Silverbacks have given Minnesota trouble, however, with wins their last two meetings.

"Minnesota has always been and will continue to be one of the staples of the league because of their commitment and the way they address each and every game," said Silverbacks technical director Eric Wynalda.  "They are always difficult to play against. The results have gone their way this year, and that is reflective in their position in the table. We're really going to give this one a go, even though it's not possible for us to win the spring season. We have no problem playing spoiler here."

The spring championship consists of nine games. The NASL will break for the World Cup and then return with an 18-game fall schedule.

The teams trailing the leaders still have something to play for. The two teams with the best combined records over the two half-seasons will join the two champions in the playoffs.
