[AMERICANS ABROAD] U.S. under-20 national team John Requejo became the latest American to sign with Mexican club Tijuana, tweeting that he had joined Xolos and was looking forward to preseason training.

Like Paul Arriola last year, Requejo had committed to attend UCLA but chose to head south of the border to Tijuana. Arriola, who also plays on the U-20s, saw significant first-team action in his first pro season.

Requejo played this season for Real So Cal after returning home from the U.S. U-17 residency program.

Alejandro Guido, another Californian, made his first-team debut in 2013-14. Stevie Rodriguez, another member of the Tijuana contingent, was one of several young Americans to play on loan for second division Dorados in the Copa MX. Amando Moreno, a New Jersey product who is also on the U-20s, left the New York Red Bulls for Xolos.

I wonder, just what is it that the Mexican teams "manage" to lure these players ti their teams? Why is it, for the love of you know whom, that US/MLS teams cannot sign these players? As a Mexican I am danged proud of the ability of Mexican American players, yet, it blows my mind whenever I read that "our guys" are noticed by Liga MX, but not by MLS???
