The Guardian reports that Luis Suarez is doing triple shifts during training with Uruguay in order to regain full fitness ahead of Uruguay’s World Cup opener against Costa Rica on June 14. The 27-year-old is recovering from keyhole surgery to his left knee, which he underwent on May 22. While he is recovering well, Uruguay coach Óscar Tabárez could decide not to risk the Liverpool striker from the start against Costa Rica and instead introduce him as a substitute with an eye on Uruguay’s second game against England on June 19.

“The knee is getting better,” Suarez told reporters on Wednesday. “I feel very good. I have to go day by day but everything is going the right way.” Added Tabárez: “We have no set deadlines. I don’t know if we’ll have him for the first match, for the second, for the third. If it were up to me, Suárez would play tomorrow.”
