[NWSL]Kerstin Garefrekes, one of the most decorated players in German women's history, has joined the Washington Spirit on loan from FFC Frankfurt for the remainder of the 2014 NWSL season.

The 34-year-old Garefrekes was second in goals in the Frauen-Bundesliga this season with 18 goals for second-place Frankfurt.

“We are very grateful for Frankfurt’s support to help make this happen,” Spirit general manager and coach Mark Parsons said in a statement. “We are looking forward to having someone with her international experience and leadership for the rest of the year.”

Since joining the club in 2004, she has helped it win a Bundesliga title, three German Cup titles and a UEFA Champions League title with 151 goals in 201 appearances.

She has 43 goals in 130 appearances for Germany, winning the 2003 and 2007 Women’s World Cup and the 2005 and 2009 European Championship.
