Tim Howard: 'It's heartbreaking'

[BRAZIL 2014] The USA's World Cup run is again over in the round of 16 after a 2-1 loss to Belgium in overtime. Tim Howard kept the Americans in the game with 16 saves, but the introduction of Romelu Lukaku at the start of overtime was the difference as he set up Kevin De Bruyne for the first goal and De Bryne returned the favor to put the Belgians ahead 2-0 after the first overtime period.

The USA was seemingly dead, but Julian Green scored on a swerving volley two minutes after entering the game to set up a dramatic finish during which the USA piled on the pressure and forcing Belgium's giant keeper, Thibaut Courtois, to make a point-blank save on Clint Dempsey.

"It's heartbreaking," Howard said. "I don't think we could have given any more."

Klinsmann sugguested it the best post the Germany loss, we didn't create enough chances and need to take advantage of our chances. USA needed more chances and didn't take advantage of the chances we had against Belgium, moreover the cardinal rule of defending, "its the man or the ball never both." Besler v. Lukaku was clearly a mismatch on both goals, all in all Belgium was the better team.

We were outcoached against Belgium. But that is not a surprise. Klinsmann is very good at development, but is not nearly as competent when it comes to game management.
