[MLS: Week 17] It's a good thing Chivas USA kept a hold of Erick Torres, on loan from Chivas de Guadalajara, at least through the end of the 2014 season. "Cubo" scored his 11th goal of the season to lead the Goats to a 1-0 win at San Jose that jumped them out of the Western Conference basement, ahead of the Quakes. Chivas USA now has back-to-back wins for the first time since March 2013.

In Chicago, the Fire played to its ninth tie in 14 games, drawing with Toronto FC, 1-1. Homegrown rookie midfielder Harry Shipp scored his team-leading sixth goal with the equalizer in the 56th minute for the Fire, which also got out of the basement in the Eastern Conference.
