Nigeria Facing FIFA Ban

Nigeria has moved closer to a ban from international soccer after the government fired the soccer federation’s (NFF) president and its entire executive committee over the weekend, risking the wrath of world governing body FIFA, which does not allow governments to interfere in soccer matters. FIFA has since given Nigeria until Tuesday to reinstate the former president Aminu Maigari or the reigning African champion would face sanctions. According to the Associated Press, Maigari was fired for not solving a player payment dispute during the World Cup, where Nigeria bowed out in the round of 16.
