[MLS: Week 18]D.C. United opened up a five-point lead at the top of the Eastern Conference with a 2-1 win at San Jose. Eddie Johnson and red-hot Luis Silva scored in the first 25 minutes, and goalkeeper Bill Hamid did the rest, making seven saves -- the last a point-blank stop on Alan Gordon in stoppage time -- to hold off the Earthquakes, who have the worst record in MLS.

San Jose's only goal was scored by Chris Wondolowski in his return from World Cup duty.
