Des Moines Menace captures regular-season championship
[PDL] The Des Moines Menace clinched the PDL regular-season title with a 2-0 victory over WSA Winnipeg to finish with a record of 12-1-1. The Menace, which
finished two points ahead of the defending champion Austin Aztex and Seacoast United Phantoms, will host the Central Conference Championship, beginning Friday at Valley Stadium. Austin and FC Tucson
will host the Southern and Western Conference final fours, respectively. The host for the Eastern Conference playoffs has yet to be determined.
FC Tucson was fourth in the overall
standings and awarded the right to host the Western Conference final four after it claimed a 2-1 win on Saturday night in its conference quarterfinal against the LA Misioneros in Las Vegas. Billy Thompson made a late save on Kyrian Nwazuebe's penalty kick to preserve the victory.
In the Eastern
Conference, the Phantoms will be joined by the Mid-Atlantic Division champion Jersey Express and South Atlantic Division champion West Virginia Chaos in the semifinals. The fourth semifinalist will be
the winner of Tuesday's match between the Mid-Atlantic Division’s Reading United and Northeast Division’s CFC Azul.
