Started: 90 minutes. South African Benni McCarthy scored both goals for Porto. Howard had no chance on either goal. United finished with 10 men after Roy Keane was ejected in the 87th minute.

Started: 90 minutes. Scored on a spectacular volley to give the Cottagers the lead in the 76th minute. McBride chested Bocanegra's pass and volleyed the ball with his left foot into the far corner of the goal. Jamaican international Barry Hayles added a second goal three minutes later to end the suspense.
