[NWSL: Week 17] FC Kansas City became the second team to clinch a playoff berth when it tied first-place Seattle, 1-1, and Washington beat Chicago, 2-1. Yael Averbuch's goal in the fourth minute of stoppage time moved the Spirit closer to a playoff berth after finishing last in the NWSL in the league's inaugural season.

The Red Stars struck early with a 4th minute goal from Lori Chalupny, but Washington equalized with a 48th-minute Christine Nairn goal. The Spirit sits in third place, four points ahead of Portland, which plays Sunday night, and six ahead of Chicago.
