Real Madrid endured a late barrage but had the heroics of goalkeeper Iker Casillas to thank after winning a nail-biter against Sevilla, 3-2, at the Sanchez Pizjuan on Saturday to keep withintouching distance of leader Barcelona, which crushed relegation-bound Cordoba 8-0 earlier in the day.

Cristiano Ronaldo scored all three of Real’s goals to close the gap at the topof the table to two points.

After the game, coach Carlo Ancelotti noted that Sevilla coach Unai Emery didn’t do his team any favors. “[Sevilla are] a team who playedwell, with fight and intensity, but it wasn’t a gift from their coach. He put out a very strong team.”
