Real Madrid President Florentino Perez fired Carlo Ancelotti as head coach on Monday, announcing that the time had come for a “change of direction.” Ancelotti’sdeparture had been widely anticipated since Real failed to win any trophies this season. While reports in Spain and Italy claim that Napoli coach Rafael Benitez will be installed as theReal’s new boss, Ancelotti’s agent, Ernesto Bronzetti, said it was 99 percent certain that the former Liverpool and Valencia coach would succeed his client.
