MLS Rosters: Who's in and who's out for 2017

The first Homegrown signing in team history and the man with the most minutes during the last two seasons have signed new contracts.

Midfielder Tommy Thompson and defender Marvell Wynne will be wearing the Quakes’ colors in 2017. The club had declined the option on Thompson’s contract; Wynne’s contract had expired and though eligible for free agency chose to stay in San Jose.

Thompson, 21, has played 47 games since signing his Homegrown deal in January, 2014. He’s failed to register a goal or an assist in 1,930 minutes of play that include 21 starts. Last season he tallied three goals and registered three assists while playing 11 USL games on loan with Sacramento Republic FC.

“We’re very happy we reached an agreement to keep Tommy with the club,” said head coach Dominic Kinnear in a team statement announcing the deals. “We’ve seen a lot of improvement over the years and know he can become an even better player in the coming seasons.”

Wynne, 30, joined the Quakes via the Re-Entry Draft held after the 2014 season. He’s started 63 of 68 games for the team and played the most minutes (5,531) of any field player. In 11 MLS seasons with the Red Bulls, Toronto FC, Colorado and the Quakes, Wynne has scored two goals and logged 11 assists in 301 games.

“Re-signing Marvell was always a priority for us,” said technical director Chris Leitch. “His speed, aggressiveness and ability to play multiple positions across the back line undoubtedly makes us a stronger and deeper club.”

The UCLA product moved inside from his regular right-back position last season when a herniated disc sidelined Clarence Goodson and is probably destined for the outside in 2017 with the offseason addition of Panamanian centerback Harold Cummings. The club declined the option on Goodson’s contract and is monitoring his recovery from back surgery performed last July. He played in just two games in 2016.

Here are all the positional rosters along with who's win and who's out by club.

Once again, and unsurprisingly, the do-nothing Quakes are sleeping through the transfer season.

The do little Quakes still haven't signed a new GM. How many months since Doyle was let go?
