Fire extinguishers, hoses, televisions, seats, copper wiring and a bronze bust of Mario Filho are among the items recently stolen from Maracana Stadium, prompting Brazilian soccer officials to call on police to stop "the destruction of the Maracana." The stadium, officially named after the journalist Filho, has been in disuse since late last year with no one taking responsibility for its upkeep.
