OFF THE POST: Goal sets off wedding bells
French defender Eric Abidal had long wanted his parents to get married. To
that end he got them to promise to exchange vows as soon as he scored his
first professional goal. Abidal, now 25, went pro in 2000 and played some
100 games for Monaco and Lille without scoring before joining Lyon this
season. Finally, Abidal scored in a November French League Cup loss.
''Now it's time for them to make their marriage official,'' said the Abidal,
whose parents have been together for 35 years.
