Manchester United's summer-long courtship of Bayern Munich's Owen Hargreaves appears to be at an end. United conceded defeat on Tuesday after Bayern resisted the club's $32 million transfer offer for the England international. Hargreaves agent, Roman Gill, later reiterated to the press that there's "no chance" of a move happening until February at the earliest. Despite this, Red Devils boss Sir Alex Ferguson and Hargreaves retain a slight hope that things could change in the next 24 hours. However, if the deal doesn't materialize, United has precious little time to tie up any holes in its squad before tomorrow evening's transfer deadline. A holding midfielder was top on Ferguson's shopping list, but now that Hargreaves is a no and Villareal have taken Marcos Senna off the table, United could be out of luck. Ferguson was said to be exploring other options in desperation yesterday, including Corinthians' Javier Mascherano, Deportivo La Coruna's Aldo Duscher, and West Ham captain Nigel Reo-Coker. A secondary option would be a loan move for an out-and-out striker such as Juventus' David Trezeguet, or better, Corinthians' other unsettled player, the Argentine Carlos Tevez.
