Two prominent Palestinian soccer players were killed by Israeli forces this week in the Gaza Strip, the Palestine Football Association said Wednesday.

It said on its Web site that national team member, Ayman al-Kurd, a 28-year-old with three children, was killed earlier this week by Israeli shelling.

It also reported that Wajih Mushtahi, a member of the Palestinian Olympic soccer team, was killed this week in Gaza. The Islamic Jihad militant group said in a statement that Mushtahi was one of its fighters and had died in combat although the Palsport News Agency reported he died at home.

And the AIPS Web site reported that former national team player Shadi Sbakhe of Khadamat Alniserat was killed in the violence. Gaza's Rafah Stadium, home of the Ahli Alenserat Club, suffered extensive damage in the ground offensive.
