Gianfranco Zola, manager of West Ham United, blasted the club’s new co-owner, David Sullivan, for going public withits plan to slash Zola’s salary and those of his players by 25 percent without letting them know. The Italian is furious that the report in the Sun came before the Hammers’ critical match withBirmingham on Wednesday.

“They can talk about players as much as they want,” said Zola. “But when an article comes out before a match like this match, I’m not happy. I don’t think it’sany good for the whole team. I haven’t spoken to them about it. I just read the article.”

West Ham’s salary budget approaches $100 million. Its debts are almost $180 million.
