David Weir, the former University of Evansville star, was named Scotland’s Player of the Year just four days short of his 40th birthday, but he doesn’tknow if he’ll be around next season at champion Rangers.

Rangers has a huge deficit, and Weir, the oldest recipient of the prestigious award from the Scottish Football WritersAssociation, believes he won’t know about his future until “late in the summer.”

“I am keen to play,” says Weir, “but it would have to be right for me, not just for the sakeof it. Until that is put in front of me, I cannot give a definitive answer. I would imagine that it might be quite late in the summer before a decision is made about me. There are six lads out ofcontract and the [management] staff. That is 10 people. It is a strange circumstance, but that is the way it is.” One of those out of contract will be American DaMarcus Beasley.
