Blaise Nkufo is spending a few days in Seattle between assignments: His Dutch league season has just concluded, and his duties with Switzerland’s World Cup team are about tobegin. After Nkufo will join the Sounders for the second half of the MLS season.

“As a striker, they can expect a lot of goals,” Nkufo said about what the Sounders’ large fanfollowing can expect. “But I need my team players and crossing passes. I know what I can do for this team, and I’m going to be focused on my skills: what I’ve done from the past andto do that for the Sounders.”

Nkufo has scored more than 200 career goals for his country and various clubs. He has seven in 27 appearances with the Swiss national team. His 114 goalsmake him the all-time leader for FC Twente, including 12 in the just-completed season that brought the club’s first Dutch league title.

“He’s got a proven goal-scoringrecord,” Coach Sigi Schmid said. “He’s not the kind of player who’s going to run away from people, so he scores his goals by instinct and timing andunderstanding the flow of the game.”
