[AMERICANS ABROAD] Conor Doyle, an 18-year-old forward who played for the Dallas Texans and enrolled in the spring at Creighton University, was offered a two-year contract by American-owned Derby County of the English League Championship.

The offer followed a four-game trial for Doyle, the son of former indoor star David Doyle.

"He is only 18," said Manager Nigel Clough, "but when he plays he doesn't look 18. It is incredible the way he has slotted in."

Doyle holds an Irish passport and therefore would not need a work permit.

He attended McKinney Boyd High School but enrolled at Creighton, for which he played spring ball.

    Yep, because those English teams are so good at turning out talent. It's a wonder they have to bring anyone in at all.
