Dr. Hans-Wilhelm Mueller-Wohlfahrt, German champion Bayern Munich’s doctor, accused the Netherlands of irresponsible behavior for allowing Arjen Robben to play at the World Cup with  a torn muscle in his left thigh that will keep him out of the first two months of the Bundesliga season, which beginsAug. 20.

“This is a severe injury,” Dr. Mueller-Wohlfahrt told the club’s website. “I find it irresponsible that thisinjury has not been precisely diagnosed and that they have let Arjen play. For my part, I offered to help with the diagnosis but this was not taken into account.”

Bayern said that aroutine preseason exam had shown that Robben had a torn muscle in his left thigh suffered before the start of the World Cup. The 26-year-old winger was rested for the first two group matches but thenplayed in the remaining five for the Oranje, who finished second behind Spain.

“It’s a shock for me to get a diagnosis like this on my return,” said Robben. “I’mvery disappointed, this absence is bitter for me and for the team.
