[MLS] A day after they picked up Macoumba Kandji from New York, the Colorado Rapids added to their corps of outside midfielders with the acquisition of Brian Mullan from Houston.

The Rapids acquired Mullan, who started on three MLS championship teams in his 10-year pro career, along with a fourth-round pick in the 2013 SuperDraft pick for injured midfielder Colin Clark and allocation money.

To get Kandji, the Rapids gave up Moroccan playmaker Mehdi Ballouchy.

Mullan, who has played 250 games for Los Angeles, San Jose and Houston, is a Denver product, having attended Regis Jesuit High School and played for the Aurora Sting.

Colorado needed to bolster its midfield after Clark was lost for the season with a knee injury. It was the second year in a row that happened to Ft. Collins product.
