England better hope that nothing serious happens to David Beckham in Friday’s MLS showdown between the Los Angeles Galaxy and New York Red Bulls. He’sscheduled to fly out to Trinidad & Tobago, where his David Beckham Academy will hold a clinic over the weekend in conjunction with the close of the Under-17 Women’s World Cup.

TheEngland connection? Beckham will be in Trinidad as part of the England 2018 World Cup bid committee’s campaign to drum up support among FIFA executive committee members in attendance, in particularTrinidadian Jack Warner, the Concacaf president.

“Trinidad and Tobago have produced some excellent players over the years and the islands arefull of young people who love football,” Beckham said in a statement. “Encouraging young girls to play football has always been an important part of the thinking behind the academy and it will begreat to take this opportunity to also see some of the world’s best young women play in the under-17 Final.”

  1. If he’s too afraid to get hurt, he shouldn’t be playing at all. Then again, he hasn’t cared about MLS or the Galaxy since day one so they’ll continue to be better off without him.
