The International Football Association Board — soccer’s rule-making authority — moved closer toward approving goal-line technology when it agreed Tuesday to re-examine the issue.
Itsmembers — representing FIFA and the four British home associations — reversed their decision of several months earlier.
In a statement issued by FIFA, the IFAB said, “Thetechnology would apply solely to the goal line, and only to determine whether a goal has been scored or not. The system must be accurate; the indication of whether a goal has been scored must beimmediate and automatically confirmed within one second; the indication of whether a goal has been scored will only be communicated to the match officials.”
Companies must make theirfirst presentations to FIFA next month. The results of tests will be given to the IFAB for its next meeting on March 5, 2011.
