Former England captain Alan Shearer joined the detractors of England coach Fabio Capello by questioning whether the national team has improved since the Italiancoach took charge nearly three years ago.

England exited the 2010 World Cup in the round of 16 with a 4-1 and the team’s 2-1 loss to France at Wembley provoked further debate aboutits future under Capello.

“Fabio’s been here for two-and-a-half years and I’m not sure we’ve actually gone forward in that time,” said Shearer, who scored 30goals for England in 63 appearances. “If every England player was fit, I’m not sure that he’d know what system he wanted or what team he wanted to play.”

The team startedits 2012 European Championship qualifying campaign with wins over Bulgaria and Switzerland but a played a dire 0-0 draw at home to Montenegro.
