Former MLS Sueno winner Rogelio Funes, who played in the FC Dallas Juniors program and starred at Arlington High School, is playing well enough with Argentine club River Plate thatEuropean clubs are in pursuit, including Portugal’s Benfica, which according to Portuguese daily Record is prepared to pay an $11 million transfer fee.

The 19-year-old Funes was born inArgentina and moved with his family to the Dallas area in 2001. He joined the FCD youth system after winning Univision’s “MLS Sueno 2008” reality show but soon moved back to Argentina after beingdiscovered by River Plate while at a tryout at English club Chelsea.
