Ukraine has made peace with UEFA, averting the possibility the governing body of European soccer would pull the plug on the former Soviet republic’s plans to co-host Euro 2012 with Poland.

Ukraine’s soccer federation (FFU) dropped calls for the departure of its longtime president, Hrigory Surkis, and the country’s president, Viktor Yanukovich, denied, the government was interfering in the FFU’s affairs.

“We can resolve the conflict in the FFU by postponing discussionson its internal problems until next year,” Yanukovich said.

Surkis, a supporter of Dynamo Kiev, has many political opponents on the Ukrainian soccer scene, including the country’sEuro 2012 minister Borys Kolesnikov.
